Couples Counseling

NOE VALLEY · SAN FRANCISCO · IN-PERSON & TELEHEALTH

Couples counseling, in San Francisco.

I specialize in working with couples. My approach is fair, kind, and collaborative — and focused on helping you and your partner understand and change the patterns at the root of recurring conflict.

Most couples I work with already know exactly how their arguments will go — and are exhausted by the fact that knowing hasn't changed anything.

Couples therapy with me involves identifying and understanding these patterns, often with insight into how they developed in the first place. We may explore how each partner's history and formative relationships contribute to current dynamics. The goal isn't just to resolve today's conflict — it's to give you and your partner the tools and understanding to navigate future challenges together.

Sessions are held in my Noe Valley office or via a secure video service. I work with couples at all stages — newly together, long-partnered, navigating major transitions, or considering separation.

MY APPROACH

Fair, kind, and collaborative.

Understanding patterns

I help couples identify the recurring dynamics that lead to conflict — and understand where those patterns come from.

Both partners equally

We look more at interactions than fault. I'm not an advocate for either partner — I focus on the dynamic between you. My approach is fair and direct.

Lasting change

The goal isn't just fewer arguments — it's understanding and trusting each other well enough to navigate what comes next.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions about couples counseling.

Does my partner need to come to the first session?

In most cases, yes — couples counseling works best when both partners are present from the start. That said, there are often occasions where it can be helpful to have a session with each partner separately. Let's talk about what makes sense for your situation.

How long does couples therapy typically last?

It depends on the nature and history of the issues involved. Some couples find meaningful improvement in a few months; others benefit from longer-term work.

What if we're not sure we want to stay together?

Couples counseling doesn't require a commitment to the relationship — only a willingness to explore it honestly. Many couples come to me at a crossroads, and the work can be valuable regardless of the outcome.

What are your fees for couples counseling?

Couples counseling is $350 per 50-minute session. I am an out-of-network provider — many PPO plans offer partial reimbursement, and I can provide the necessary superbill to support your claim.
